Stormwater Sentries
Stormwater Sentries is an online stormwater game that promotes awareness of the environmental impact from stormwater runoff into the Chesapeake Bay. Players take on challenges, complete missions, earn money and work to create a sustainable town designed to reduce stormwater runoff.
Stormwater Sentries was designed to demonstrate the impact our decisions have on our private property to local stream health. The Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay wanted to create a fun and engaging experience to educate the community on how to make wiser environmental decisions that improve water quality in nearby streams, rivers, and the Chesapeake Bay. The game went live on April 10, 2014 and is available on Facebook: Stormwater Sentries.
Take on missions to clean up trash, plant native plants, reduce impervious surfaces, install rain barrels and more! As missions are completed, you will see water quality improve in the local stream. Take on advanced missions to restore the stream buffer to provide habitat for wildlife!
Simple, easy-to-follow instructions lead you through the world of reducing stormwater pollution. See what new challenges await you. Aquire new items to help in your cleanup efforts. Shop for bigger and better BMPs like rain gardens and stream buffers. And check the town’s water quality as you improve the stormwater runoff.
After you try out the free facebook game, learn about how you can improve your neighborhood’s stormwater runoff in the real world. The Alliance developed a program dedicated to these factors, known as Chesapeake RiverWise Communities, which focuses their efforts on increasing green living throughout the area.
